TLC For Your Skin During The Winter

TLC For Your Skin During The Winter

When the temperatures drop it affects our skin.  We have to take in consideration a few things during the frosty months.  Keeping your face protected by always using moisturizers, especially if you have dry skin.  Don’t forget the rest of your skin and use body washes instead of harsh soaps.  Use lukewarm water and keep hot water off your face and body.  Apply moisturizer after showering, while your skin is still damp.  The snow has an added ability to damage our skin by reflecting UV rays.  Even your eyes need protection so wear sunglasses.

Winter is hard on skin. Dry air and harsh wind can sap moisture from the skin, causing cracking, chapping, and irritation. And even though it's not blazing hot, your skin is still vulnerable to damage from the sun's ultraviolet rays. Luckily, you can take action to minimize winter skin problems. Here are some tips to help you keep your skin as youthful-looking and healthy as possible throughout the winter months:

1. Your skin still needs moisture
Avoid using face soaps or lotions containing alcohol as they can make your skin even drier.

2. Change your face cream or moisturizer
One interesting fact is that during the winter your skin type may change. For example, if your skin is oily it can become normal; the normal skin may become dry and the dry may become hypersensitive, but these changes will last only during the winter months as the humidity, the temperatures change the skin.

3. Moisturize your whole body
You should exfoliate your body once a week to remove the dead skin cells and to improve your blood circulation. Moisturize your skin every time after taking a shower.

4. Take care of your hands

Choose a hand cream that contains vitamins and other nourishing ingredients. Apply the cream at least twice a day to keep your hands soft and well-moisturized.

5. Protect your lips
Chapped lips are something very common during the winter months. The skin on your lips is very delicate and sensitive and becomes dehydrated very easily. Use a lip balm with moisturizing ingredients, Vaseline or petroleum jelly to keep your lips moist and soft.
